Whenever I wear a tulle skirt, I just can’t feel more feminine and refreshed with its elegant yet playful design!

While we may not wear these cuties on a daily basis like jeans, I truly believe it’s worth it to invest in a nice quality tulle skirt.

You know, for the days that we want to look a bit more whimsical, a tulle skirt is always the perfect choice to go with!

While people always think only tall and slim girls can pull off the dreamy tulle skirt look, this is definitely not the case!
If you pay attention to details, you will realize tulle skirts can be flattering regardless of the body shape!
So here are my 7 tips + 18 outfits on how to wear a tulle skirt without looking fat!

Enjoy, and please pin or share some of these looks to grow the plus-size fashion together! <3 Thanks, love.
1. Avoid tulle skirts with more than 2 layers to minimize the bulk
Everything has to be given and taken.

If you want to minimize the volume of your lower body, you should avoid the tulle skirt with too many layers.
From my experience, a dress with more than two layers will look really flouncy, and unavoidably, that makes your hip and waist area look way wider.

The number of layers really makes a huge difference in your body figure, so always try your tulle skirt on instead of shopping online!

2. Wear a monochrome outfit to elongate your body figure
I adore the monochrome look when it comes to a tulle skirt.
Not only does this make you look effortlessly chic (even if you don’t have any fashion sense).

But for practical reasons, tone-on-tone always makes you look taller and slimmer!
As a bulky item, a tulle dress isn’t easy to carry at all.
With the volume, it can visually drag your body down and make you look a bit clumsy.
In this case, we should always minimize the colors in our outfits and let the tulle dress be the only highlight.

With the similar shade of colors of your top and dress, the tulle dress can blend in easily and can visually elongate your body.
Vice versa, with two highly contrasting colors, that visually divide you into two parts instead of one long figure.
So ladies, always style your tulle skirt with a similar color tone if you want to look more dressed up, elegant, and polished!

3. Avoid floor-length tulle skirts to look taller
Yes I know, a floor-length tulle dress can be a romantic gown and party dress.
But when it comes to daily wear, I do think the knee-length dress and over-the-knee dress are more flattering to most of our figure.
I had a painful experience when I wore a floor-length tulle dress at a party but my friend said I looked like a short scouring pad…

As I’ve said, a tulle dress can easily add heaviness and drag our bodies down.
An easy way to balance that up is by showing our ankle areas.
As ankles are always one of the thinnest body parts, that can make a big contrast with the tulle dress and make you appear to be taller.
If you are a petite girl, a hemline just above the knee is always flattering and works best when it comes to contouring your body proportion.
No matter what you think about how dreamy the maxi tulle dress is, trust me on this!
4. Wear an off-shoulder or V-neck top to balance out the bulkiness of the tulle skirt
When it comes to tulle skirts, always follow the “Tight for top x Loose for a dress” golden rule and you still be okay!

As a tulle skirt will already widen your lower body part, it’s important to wear a fitted outfit for the top to balance that up.
A nice fitted shirt is always a good choice.
However, if you want to level up your game, try wearing an off-shoulder top or at least a nice slim-cut V-neck shirt.

Again, showing the clavicle and neckline just sheds the sagginess of the outfit and makes you look more lightweight as a whole.
Plus, an off-shoulder top can always bring out femininity and sassiness – I love it!
As a side note, please don’t wear a round-neck shirt or turtleneck — that will make your face look bigger in general!
5. Wear a Corset belt with a tutu dress to accentuate your curves
Most people tell you to wear a belt with a tutu dress.

But again, if you want to look more put together, consider wearing a corset belt to accentuate your shape even more!
I’ve tried wearing a regular belt with a tutu dress, and that’s certainly not bad.
I am glad that it does highlight the high waist area and makes me look slimmer.
However, the effect is not obvious. When I try wearing the structured corset belt, this just instantly hides my muffin top and belly away.

The hard fabric can also tame the tulle dress and keep it in a nice shape even on those windy days.
Another benefit is you can always keep your back straight with the corset belt and that makes you walk in your lovely tulle skirt with confidence!

6. Pay attention to the colors and fabric of your tulle dress
The truth is – fabric matters.
If you want to look slimmer, choose a fabric like silk and polyamide instead of chiffon.

Chiffon usually adds the most bulkiness when compared to the other fabric.
If you want a chiffon tulle dress, at least you can choose the dress with ONLY the chiffon as the overlay instead of every single layer.
Another no-brainer tip is always to choose dark colors instead of bright colors.
But does that mean you can wear only black and dark colors? Of course not!

Other low saturation colors like khaki, soft pink, and light blue look great too as they are certainly not as attention-grabbing as the bright tones like shocking pink and red.
Plus, we can always carry soft colors like monochrome wearing so don’t worry too much!
This is so random… BUT
- Your body is a masterpiece that carries you through life’s journey—honor it with the love and respect it deserves.
- Beauty has no single definition; you define what beauty means through your uniqueness and authenticity.
- Your worth extends infinitely beyond your appearance—your kindness, strength, and spirit are what truly shine.
- The space you occupy in this world is yours by right; never apologize for existing exactly as you are.
- Your body tells the story of your life—every mark, curve, and change is a chapter of resilience and growth.
- You deserve to speak to yourself with the same compassion and tenderness you would offer to someone you love.
- Nourishing your body and soul isn’t selfish—it’s a necessary act of self-respect and care.
- The parts of yourself you’ve been taught to hide may be exactly what makes you magnificently unique.
- Your body is not a project to be fixed—it is a vessel for experiencing the fullness of life’s joys.
- You are allowed to love yourself completely today, not when you reach some future version of yourself.

7. Wear heels instead of platform shoes and sneakers
We know we shouldn’t wear sneakers with tulle skirts but does that mean any shoes with height are perfect?
Not really!

With soft and light fabric like chiffon, tulle dresses always give people a sense of floatiness.
That being said, it is always best to style the dress with delicate, lightweight shoes like heels.
If you want your legs visually elongated, and even more, pairing nude heels with a similar skin tone of your legs is a no-brainer.

As for platform shoes, I think they are the perfect choice when it comes to styling flared jeans.
But for the tulle skirt, they are a bit cumbersome visually and the vibes just don’t go well with the dress.
Plus, that can make your legs look thicker, especially the ones with ankle stripes!
